Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
